Biography

Aris joined the Bartlett School of Construction and Project Management in December 2012. He is a Lecturer in Infrastructure Investment and Finance and the programme director for the MSc in Infrastructure Investment and Finance. He holds a PhD degree in Transportation Infrastructure Management and Finance from the University of Texas at Austin and an MSc degree in Transportation Infrastructure and Systems Engineering from Virginia Tech. He is a registered professional civil engineer with a Diploma in Civil Engineering (Transportation) from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece. Prior to joining academia Aris was employed as a Senior Consultant by a private engineering/management consulting firm and has also practiced as a free-lance consultant and civil engineer. He has worked on a number of infrastructure management research and consulting projects for the Virginia and the Texas Departments of Transportation in the USA, and has provided consulting services (PPP transaction advisory, feasibility studies etc.) for transportation projects in Greece, Albania and countries in Africa. Aris is a member of various professional organizations in Europe and the USA and is currently serving as an academic advisor to the World Economic Forum (Strategic Infrastructure initiative, Future of Construction initiative) and as a group member of the PPP projects’ team on transport (airports and roads) of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).

Research Summary

Aris’ main research interests are centred on public private partnerships, project finance, infrastructure asset management, infrastructure investment risk analysis and mitigation, among other relevant topics. He is a member of the editorial board of the ICE Journal of Infrastructure Asset Management and serves as a reviewer for various other academic journals such as ASCE Journal of Infrastructure Systems, ASCE Journal of Transportation Engineering, Transport Reviews, Computer-Aided Civil and Infrastructure Engineering, ICE journal of Management, Procurement and Law and Journal of Built Environment Project and Asset Management.
