I am currently the Programme Leader of the MA in Mathematics Education programme in the Curriculum, Pedagogy and Assessment Department and a Principal Teaching Fellow in mathematics education. I teach on the MA Mathematics Education programme and on the Mathematics PGCE course. As part of the MA Mathematics Education programme I am involved in dissertation supervision of Masters students.

 Prior to joining Institute of Education in September 2010, I taught Pure Mathematics at higher education level for 10 years: Calculus and Differential Equations, Real and Complex Analysis, Number Theory and Mathematical Logic, followed by six years teaching Mathematics in secondary schools in London at KS3, KS4, A-level and Further Mathematics.  

Research Summary

My research interests centre around the development of teachers’ professional knowledge base for teaching and the incorporation of the digital technology in mathematics lessons. Over the years, I worked alongside teachers in classrooms, planning for lessons where the digital technology was being used, delivering lessons jointly with the teachers, and encouraging them to reflect on their teaching experiences.

My interest on how teachers’ mathematical and pedagogical knowledge are intertwined and how they affect one's teaching has led to research on identities of teachers who are becoming mathematics specialists.

I am also involved in supporting postgraduate research mathematics students who are contributing to the teaching of undergraduates while they pursue their own doctoral research.
