Biography

Urbanist and architect, PhD Development Planning and MSc Building & Urban Design in Development.  I am a Research Associate at the GCRF research programme “Knowledge in Action for Urban Equality”, led by The Bartlett Development Planning Unit, University College London, working on the challenges of translating research into practice to tackle urban inequalities in various countries.

I have worked as a practitioner, researcher and teacher in Chile and the UK, with experience of fieldwork and teaching in Latin America, Asia, Europe and Africa. My practice has focused on housing policies, urban planning, participatory urban design, urban informality, and housing reconstruction. I have worked with multidisciplinary teams, doing research, coordinating projects and leading independent initiatives, both in academic institutions as well as in independent NGOs, with a special interest in linking research, advocacy, and housing and planning practices and policies.

Research Summary

My current research is part of the GCRF programme "Knowledge in Action for Urban Equality", working specifically on the challenge of "Translating research into practice", working in collaboration with partners in Havana, Lima, Freetown, Dar es Salam, Kampala and Colombo. Our work focus on investigating the challenges of knowledge translation processes, exploring the various ways in which they occur, and the role these processes can have challenging geographies of knowledge production and circulation, as well as their impact on planning practices that support urban equality.

My previous research, in the context of my PhD, was about the challenges faced by housing policies in reducing urban inequalities, in the Chilean context.
