Research Summary
Carolien has an interest in the conservation of contemporary art and design, particularly works created in novel modern materials developed for Rapid Prototyping (RP) and Additive Manufacturing (AM). Her current research focus is on the photostability of these materials. She is developing a methodology for the use of microfading  as a tool for accelerated photodegradation to quickly assess the stability of new RP/AM polymers.

As part of the Horizon 2020 Nanorestart Project (Nanomaterials for the restoration of works of art). Carolien is assessing the effectiveness and applicability of polyfunctional protective systems for the conservation of RP/AM polymers which has shown to be unstable.
