I studied English and French at Vienna University. As an undergraduate, I spent a year in Paris, studying French literature and culture at Sorbonne Nouvelle. At the end of my degree in Modern Languages, I went to Columbia University, New York, in order to do research on Paul Auster's New York novels.

After finishing my degree and teaching English and French in secondary schools in Vienna, I received a Fulbright scholarship and had the chance to teach German as a foreign language at the University of Oklahoma, USA. While teaching, I took classes in Native American literature, music and art.

When I came to the UK in 2003, I decided to do an M.A. in Gender, Culture, Politics, focussing on the representation of gender in American graphic novels and Japanese manga.

Research Summary

I am currently doing my PhD on the political aesthetics of the Berlin Wall.

My research interests are in popular culture, gender studies, cultural studies and critical theory.

Teaching Summary

I have more than ten years experience of teaching German as a foreign language in the UK as well as the US. I have taught all levels at university as well as in adult education. I am especially interested in language based content classes, translation, German for academic purposes and business German. I am currently collaborating with colleagues from SEES and Hebrew studies on a joint linguistic unit, exploring the historic pluricentricity of speakers in the Danube river region.
