In her capacity as Consultant in Public Health and Physician Epidemiologist for various research institutions over the last 15 years, Dr Renzi has pursued an interdisciplinary approach to address issues of public health relevance in different areas, including projects on outcomes research, access to healthcare, treatment adherence, and clinical epidemiology.
In particular, on cancer prevention and early detection, Dr Renzi's work has focused on the investigation of factors associated with timely access to evidence-based healthcare and patient outcomes. Dr Renzi is especially interested in the evaluation of diagnostic pathways and factors influencing timely diagnosis of cancer, including clinical, social, behavioural and health-care related factors. Her present work specifically focuses on the evaluation of the potential impact of previous cancer referrals on delayed cancer diagnosis, symptom awareness and help-seeking behaviour for subsequent cancer symptoms.
In recent years, Dr Renzi has conducted an in-depth evaluation of public reporting of hospital performance indicators and subsequent changes in quality of care, with specific attention to cardiac care.
Previously, Dr Renzi has worked on projects focusing on
sexual behaviours and the prevention and early detection of AIDS/HIV, including
a European Concerted Action on sexual behaviour and the risk of AIDS and STDs.
