Christiane Wienand (née Winkler) graduated from the Universität Konstanz (Germany) and the UCL Centre for European Studies, where she read History, Political Sciences, Economics (Konstanz) and European Society (UCL). She received a PhD in History from UCL for her dissertation "Performing Memory. Returned German Prisoners of War in Divided and Reunited Germany", which is under contract with Camden House (USA) to be published in 2014. Prior to her return to UCL as a Research Fellow, she worked as Personal Assistant for the President of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Germany).

Research Summary

Christiane Wienand's research interests cover German history in the 20th century, the history of European integration after 1945 and memory cultures in Germany and Europe. She co-organized various conferences on German and European history

In her current project Christiane Wienand explores transnational reconciliation activities and activists in Europe and Israel with a specific focus on the "young generation". Her project is part of the AHRC funded research project Reverberations of War: Communities of Experience and Identification in Germany and Europe since 1945.

Teaching Summary

Christiane has taught about various topics of 20th century German history in Konstanz and London.
