Biography

My interests and specialisms lie in the intersection of architecture, urbanism, art, and anthropology. I hold a PhD from the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London (UCL), which explored the role sites of violence and commemoration play within contemporary processes of ‘facing and reckoning with the past’ in Turkey. Both my research and teaching are based on a rethinking of urban and architectural history through the themes of conflict, violence, disaster, and ruination.

Research Summary

Teaching Summary

Between 2012 and 2015 I taught my own modules on London's architectural and urban history at UCL's History of Art department. In Autumn term 2014, I acted as seminar leader on the "Approaches to Knowledge" module as part of UCL's new interdisciplinary undergraduate programme "Arts and Sciences"(BASc). Also under this program, I led seminars and mentored students in Spring 2014 as part of the course "Object Lessons: Communicating Knowledge through Collections," a core course taught through collections in UCL's museums. Currently I am Teaching Fellow in Architectural History & Theory at the Bartlett School of Architecture, where I coordinate the first year undergraduate survey module "History of Cities and Their Architecture," and lead seminars and tutorials as part of the MRes programme "Architecture and Digital Theory." In 2015-16 I worked as Lecturer in Critical & Contextual Studies at the University of Hertfordshire School of Creative Arts. Alongside my role at the Bartlett, I work as Research Fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science, and as Adjunct Lecturer in Architectural History at the Syracuse University School of Architecture (London program), a role I have had since January 2015.
