I am currently a National Institute for Health Research Doctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Applied Health Research (DAHR) and am undertaking my PhD on boundaries between academic and health organisations in Academic Health Science Centres.
Prior to starting my fellowship in 2010, I worked in the NHS for 8 years in management and service improvement roles across acute care, commissioning and mental health, and therefore brings a practical understanding of the NHS to my research. Most recently, I was Service Manager for HIV and Sexual Health at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, where I also held a Fellowship at the NIHR CLAHRC for North West London.
I have a first class degree in Politics from the University of Sheffield, where I was awarded the David Marquand prize for my dissertation on joined up government and drugs policy, and an MSc in Health Services Management (with distinction) from the University of Warwick, where I undertook my MSc dissertation on the role of the state and NHS values.
My main research interests are in health policy and the management of healthcare organisations. I am currently undertaking my PhD on the boundaries between academic and health organisations in Academic Health Science Centres and how knowledge translation can be achieved across these boundaries.
I am also interested in how managers in healthcare use research, governance, innovation and improvement in healthcare and how research evidence is translated into practice.
In addition to my UCL role I am an Associate Fellow at the University of Warwick Medical School and have taught at MSc level there since 2008. I am Module Leader on the Organisational Behaviour and Health Service Policy MSc module, and have also taught and marked assignments on the Health Services Management and International Health Policy modules. I have supervised several healthcare professionals through their MSc dissertations to successful completion.
I have also undertaken teaching sessions on the UK and international health policy process at King's College London, University of Winchester and the NIHR CLAHRC for North West London.
