Dr Fangzhu Zhang is a Lecturer in China Planning. She worked at School of City Planning, Cardiff University (2006-2011) and University of Southampton  (2000-2002) before joining in UCL. She received her Ph.D. degree in University of Southampton, UK in 2006. Up to date, she has published 13 referred articles, 2 book chapters, 7 working papers, 1 special issue (guest editor) and 1 edited book. She has presented 16 papers at international conferences in the UK, Europe, China and America. She is joint-coordinator for China Planning Research Group in Bartlett School of Planning, UCL and is supervising 6 PhD research projects on urban china planning. 

Research Summary

Her main research interests include innovation and science parks, especially biotechnology R&D in China, sustainable development and Chinese eco-cities. She has been involved in several research projects, including EU innovation programme project, ESRC/DFID project on Chinese urban villages, and UK-China sustainable development dialogue. She has been network facilitator of the Urban China Research International Network funded by the Leverhulme Trust.She has published papers in the journals such as Regional Studies, European Planning Studies, Progress in Planning, Town Planning Review, and Geography Compass. She is currently working on innovation and governance of Chinese science parks, eco-innovation, and eco-cities in China.
