During 2012-2014, I was NIHR Post-Doctoral Fellow in the University of Cambridge. During 2006-11 I worked as part-time consultant clinical adviser for the Interventional Procedures Programme of NICE (National Institute for Health and Social Care Excellence). During 2004-7 I worked as consultant in public health in the East of England NHS. During 1999-2004 I trained in public health medicine in the North West Deanery and the University of Manchester (2002-4). During the 1990s I trained in general internal medicine in NHS hospitals in North West England.
In 2016 I was awarded the Cancer Research UK Future Leader Prize that recognises individuals who have produced research of international relevance in their first ten post-doctoral years, being the first epidemiologist to be given the Prize.
I am a healthcare epidemiologist and population health scientist who specialises in cancer research
My research chiefly focuses on examining diagnostic pathways and delays in symptomatic patients subsequently diagnosed with cancer, and the understanding of responsible psychosocial and healthcare factors. I also study disparities in cancer management and outcomes, including cancer patient experience.
