I am a chartered (CPsychol) and a registered practising Health Psychologist (HPC reg. no: PYL21971) and an Associate Fellow (AFBPsS) of the British Psychological Society.
I am generally interested in most aspects of behavioural medicine and health service research. More specifically, coping and illness adjustment in patients with chronic/terminal illness (e.g. cancer); the role religious/spiritual resources play in coping and its adaptive and maladaptive effects on illness adjustment. I am also interested in people’s lay beliefs about illness and treatment and its effect on self-management; decision making and adherence to treatment. Another area of interest is health care provision, especially improving care for people with dementia and their carers in both the primary and secondary care setting, early on in the illness but also towards end of life. I am involved in research examining the role of exercise in maintaining health and quality of life in older adults and in people with dementia.
I teach on the MSc Health Psychology course at UCL.
