Dr Ilias Krystallis

Ilias is a Lecturer in Enterprise Management, in the School of Construction and Project Management, the Bartlett Faculty of the Built Environment, University College London. Ilias was born in Corfu, Greece, where he studied civil engineering and worked as civil engineer. He was recipient of a PhD Studentship from Loughborough University and in 2016 he obtained his PhD from the School of Civil and Building Engineering. Ilias has nearly 10 years of industry experience and has served as strategic advisor to prestigious clients such as Highways England, London Underground, and Crossrail. Ilias has worked for CH2M, a global engineering company that provides consulting, design, construction, and operations services for corporations, and federal, state, and local governments before joining UCL in 2017. He has presented in high profile events and international conferences. 

Research Summary

Recent research focuses on the management and organisation of large, complex infrastructure projects (i.e. Healthcare, Infrastructure), particularly how management can contribute to more sustainable developments. His research is seeking to influence and inform built environment policies around clean growth and managing innovation. Ilias works with organizations and industry leaders to bring practical issues into light and develop solutions with a theoretical substance.

Research interests include:

-Built envirnoment

-Resilience (Uncertainty, Real options reasoning, Future-proofing)

-Critical Realism

-Disruptive technologies

Teaching Summary

Ilias is module leader for the MSc courses: Management of Large Projects and Programmes, and Managing the Professional practice. Heis also module leader for the BSc module: Built Asset Management.
