Research Summary

I am a Teaching Fellow in English Linguistics at UCL, where I work on the Teaching Grammar in Schools project at the Survey of English Usage. I teach pre-service and in-service teachers about English grammar and stylistics, and how this can be applied in the classroom.

Currently I am researching how secondary English teachers can integrate Text World Theory and cognitive stylistics into a reader response pedagogy that has real classroom benefit for poetry teaching.

I have an interest in pedagogical stylistics, namely Text World Theory, functional grammar, cognitive linguistics and contextualised grammar teaching - and what these can do for secondary school students and teachers as a way of thinking about how language works.
