Biography
Jaap Geraerts is a historian of early modern Europe who specialises in the religious history of the Dutch Republic in the late sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. Besides his area of specialization he is interested in the history of the book, early modern reading practices, and the digital humanities.

Currently he is working as the postdoctoral fellow on the project 'The Archaeology of Reading in Early Modern Europe', an international collaboration between CELL and Johns Hopkins and Princeton universities. 

He completed his BA and research MA in History at Utrecht University and his PhD at UCL (2015) with a dissertation titled 'The Catholic Nobility in the Dutch Republic, c. 1580-1702'. Currently he is working on his first book, provisionally titled: 'Patrons of Faith: the Catholic Nobility in Utrecht and Guelders'. His next major research project will focus on the role of the Catholic laity in the Jansenist controversy in the Dutch Republic, c. 1650-1750.
