I received my Magister Artium (MA) in German literature from Freie Universit├Ąt Berlin in 2004. After working as a journalist for print and online media for several years, I took up my doctoral studies at the Institute of Germanic and Romance Studies (IGRS), University of London in 2008. I received my PhD in 2013. 

Research Summary

My principal research interests are contemporary German history, consumer culture and media history. I am particularly interested in the role of non-elite cultures, as expressed in the mass media and popular culture, in the shaping of modern German history. My PhD thesis, 'Die Zeitung der Zeit': The Newspaper Tempo, 1928-1933. Discourses on Democracy, Consumption, Youth and Women, analyzes the role of the tabloid newspaper Tempo in the political culture of the late Weimar Republic. I also regularly write about German politics and culture in German and UK media, including The Guardian.

Teaching Summary

I teach German and European History in the German Department and the Department of European Social and Political Studies. My courses are:

My office hours are Tuesdays, 3-4pm (room G12, German department) and Fridays, 1-2pm (room 3.5, ESPS)
