Biography

I am Jessica Schrouff. I was born and raised in Belgium, where I obtained my Master's degree in Biomedical Engineering and my PhD in Applied Sciences (University of Li├Ęge, 2013). My thesis investigated how machine learning models can help us understand how our brain functions. Previous work aimed to predict whether subjects have Parkinson's Disease or not, or how our brain reinforces a new memory, based on recordings of brain activity. I am involved in the design of PRoNTo (Pattern Recognition for Neuroimaging Toolbox), an open-source Matlab toolbox to perform machine learning modeling of neuroimaging data. I am currently a post-doctoral fellow at Stanford University and at University College London where I pursue the study of machine learning models for use on brain data.

Research Summary

Most of my career has been dedicated to investigating the application of machine learning models to brain imaging and electrophysiological recordings. This topic has received a growing interest from the neuroscientific community since multivariate tools were introduced to analyze neuroimaging data (e.g. Haxby et al., 2001). My work included both cognitive and clinical neuroscience applications - with a particular focus on the mechanisms of memory consolidation.

Teaching Summary

PRoNTo courses and OHBM Educational courses.
