Research Summary

Kalpa has developed a large portfolio of research on promoting health and wellbeing in later life within the Centre for Ageing Population Studies at UCL. 


Her interests include ageing well and maintaining independence in later life, the broader determinants of health and wellbeing, and inequalities in access to preventative services. She has experience in the development and testing of complex community-based interventions, mixed-methods evaluations including trials and qualitative work.


She has collaborated with a wide range of multi-disciplinary experts in ageing, and has extensive experience of cross-sector working with stakeholders and public and patient engagement in research.


Kalpa has successful experience of securing grants from various funders including NIHR (SPCR and HTA) and charities (Thomas Pocklington Trust).


She is currently completely her PhD (part-time) on the experiences and management of loneliness in later life.

Teaching Summary

She has been a Lecturer and Course Lead on the Qualitative Research Methods in Health course at UCL from the outset (since 2013). She has run short courses on qualitative research including at the University of Cork. She has run workshops on frailty and dementia in Sri Lanka.
