Biography

I currently work at UCL in the Bartlett School of Planning, where I research planning of renewable energy infrastructure (NSIPs) as well as lecturing and teaching across a range of modules. In addition I consult on public engagement in planning, and am reviews and digital content editor for the Built Environment journal, recently launching the Blogged Environment

Previously, I have worked as the Principal Researcher in the international department of the RTPI, developed the State of the Commonwealth Cities methodology, and conducted studies - large and small, quantitative and qualitative, exploratory, longitudinal and methodologically specialist - commissioned by Government departments for policy-making purposes.

Research Summary

My research centres on excellence in policymaking, and I work in both quantitative and qualitative modes. My current research into NSIPs (Nationally Significant Infrastructure Planning), is an ESRC-funded project led by Prof Rydin and focused on the role of Publics & Evidence in decision-making on renewable energy infrastructure.

Since 2002, I have conducted a range of studies across collaborative governance, community participation, local planning, spatial planning, public health, urban design governance, and most recently infrastructure. See the full publications listing from all my work at my IRIS profile https://iris.ucl.ac.uk/iris/browse/profile.

Recently I completed the AHRC-funded 'Evaluating the Governance of Urban Design', and the book from that study of CABE (the Commission for Architecture & the Built Environment 1999-2010) is in press. I co-founded the Place Alliance in response to the findings of that work.
