Biography
I gained a First-Class Honours degree in English and French from the University of Glasgow in 1990, and a D.Phil. from the University of Oxford in 1995. I held the Darby Fellowship in English at Lincoln College, Oxford from 1992 to 1997, and have taught in the English Department at UCL since 1997.
Research Summary

I am currently focusing on working on a monograph about magic, literature and theology in the Middle Ages.

An article about Fate, Destiny and Fortune in Malory's Le Morte Darthur and other late-medieval literature will be published in the American journal Studies in Philology later this year.

A paperback version of my edited book A Concise Companion to Middle English Literature, first published in 2009, is being brought out by Wiley-Blackwell at the end of 2013.

Teaching Summary

I currently teach on the following undergraduate courses in the English Department: Introduction to Old and Middle English Literature; Chaucer; Middle English Literature I; Middle English Literature II; History of the English Language. I convene the Chaucer and Middle English Literature I and II courses.

I also teach on the MARS MA courses The Medieval English Book and Travel and Writing in the Middle Ages (a new course for the 2013-14 academic session). I co-convene both of these courses.
