Margaret joined the MCPCRU as a senior research associate in October 2013. Margaret is working on the Marie Curie Dementia programme grant assessing the clinical needs and symptom burden of people with advanced dementia resident in care homes and within their own home. The programme also aims to assess the health and social care needs of family or informal carers. Margaret has been involved in the development of a complex intervention, which has drawn upon data from the “Compassion” cohort study, to design an enhanced model of care for care home residents with advanced dementia approaching the end of life. The Compassion Intervention is currently being trialled in two North London care homes.
Margaret qualified in medicine from Bristol University (MB ChB) and is a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (MRCGP). She obtained MSc Gerontology with distinction in 2013 from Kings College London.
Before joining the unit Margaret worked as a principal in general practice in the Cambridge area for 16 years. During this time she developed a special interest in care home medicine, care of the frail older person and end of life care. Margaret continues to work one day per week in general practice in Cambridge.
