Biography
I have been involved in and led a broad range of teacher education programmes across London and the South East, supporting undergraduate, postgraduate and postdoctoral student teachers as well as experienced teachers.  This is informed by my prior experience as a physics teacher in London, my engagement with research and what I have learnt from the many school colleagues I have been fortunate enough to work with over the years.
Research Summary
I am fascinated by the processes involved in learning and use insights from complexity theory, neuroscience and conceptual change research to better understand these.  Bringing these insights together has implications for how we characterise learning as dynamic and context-specific and in considering how teachers respond to these contexts.  It also opens up a range of methodological approaches, for example in deploying network analysis to educational settings and in analysing how we learn from patterns of behaviour and association within those settings.

Additionally, I am interested in how teachers engage with educational research. I have conducted a number of projects to investigate how teachers and researchers can collaborate to develop research informed pedagogies and resources which are appropriate to their pupils.
Teaching Summary
I teach on teacher education routes in secondary science (specialising in physics), the MA Science Education programme and supervise master's level and doctoral research students.
