Research Summary
My research interests concern development in children with physical disability, children's use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems and tools, and service provision for children with communication disability. My current research is focused on early social communication and co-morbidity in children with cerebral palsy, and on determining multi-dimensional factors that inhibit or promote children's participation in formal and informal settings, including the take-up of AAC. As a speech and language therapist my primary area of clinical practice has been the specialist assessment of communication skills in children with physical disability and complex needs, including facilitating the decision-making involved in selecting and securing appropriate communication equipment, goal-setting, monitoring and evaluation.
