I graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2008 with a B.A. Social Policy and Sociology. I then undertook an M.A. Sociology and Management at the University of Essex before returning to Sheffield to undertake a Ph.D investigating innovations in state-led democratic participation with a particular focus on conflict and deliberation.

Research Summary

My research focuses on the themes of urban governance, localism and the neo-liberal state, in particular the role of non-state actors (especially communities and the private sector) in decision-making processes.

My current research explores the post-2010 localism agenda, particularly citizen participation in the planning system, focusing on the relationship between social justice and growth. Other recent work has explored the role of the private sector on local democratic practices.
