Dr Matthew Winning is a Research Associate in the UCL Energy Institute and the UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources. He provides economic analysis and macroeconomic modelling on the subjects of climate policy, green growth, resource efficiency and the circular economy, ecosystem services, natural capital, and low-carbon transitions.

He undertook his PhD in the Fraser of Allander Institute at the University of Strathclyde. Matthew has a Law and Economics LLB and an MSc in Economics, both from the University of Edinburgh. He also previously worked for Blackrock International.

Research Summary

Matthew's main research focus is on the macroeconomic impacts of enviromental policies. His PhD focussed on institutions and instruments related to UK climate change policy including a policy analysis of the UK Committee on Climate Change and the implemention of a carbon tax using Input-Output and Computable General Equilibrium models.

His research interests include climate change policy, circular economy, green growth, low carbon transitions, and macroeconomic modelling.
Teaching Summary

Matthew has experience in tutoring micro and macro economics at all undergraduate levels and has given numerous MSc lectures on environmentally-extended economic modelling.
