Mr Niko Pavlopoulos

Niko is a PhD candidate and a teaching fellow in Public International Law at UCL. He is also a Project Coordinator for the UCL Public International Law Pro Bono Project. 

He was previously Academic Editor of the UCL Journal of Law and Jurisprudence (2016-2017) and an editorial board member of the Journal (2014-2015, 2017-2018). He was also a coach for the UCL Jessup team of 2015-6 (semi-finalists) and 2016-7 (finalists).

Niko holds an LLM (Distinction) from UCL in International Law, and an LLB (First Class Honours) from the University of Southampton, with a year abroad at KU Leuven (Belgium).

Prior to joining UCL, Niko undertook internships at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law and the International Bar Association Human Rights Institute, and was an ad hoc researcher for the Media Legal Defence Initiative. He also worked as a research assistant for academics, practitioners, and H.E. Judge Crawford of the International Court of Justice. 

Research Summary

Niko's thesis seeks to provide an account of the international legal framework on the Governments of States, under the supervision of Professor Roger O’Keefe and Dr Alex Mills. His research is supported by an Economic and Social Research Council Studentship and the UCL Faculty of Laws. 

Teaching Summary

Niko lectures and delivers tutorials for Public International Law (LLB). He has also lectured on the War and International Law (MA) module and has lectured prospective undergraduate students on International Human Rights Law as part of a UCL widening participation scheme. Niko has also convened Public International Law I (LLB) at the University of Surrey (2017-8)
