Biography

I was educated at Downside School, and read Medical Sciences at Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge University, followed by clinical training at the (now Royal) London Hospital.

My degrees from Cambridge are BA (1970), B Chir (1973), MB (1974), MA (1976) and MD (1988 - Doctoral Thesis on Young Onset Parkinson's Disease & Juvenile Parkinsonism)

My neurology career began in 1976 when I was SHO to the late Professor David Marsden, FRS, who co-founded the subspecialty of Movement Disorders.

I later spent a year working at the Salpetriere Hospital in Paris with Prof Yves Agid, before returning to London in 1979 to pursue my training and career as a movement disorder specialist, first at King's College Hospital Medical School and the Institute of Psychiatry with Marsden, later moving with him to the National Hospital for Nervous Diseases (now the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery) Queen Square in 1988.

I obtained my MRCP in 1977, and FRCP in 1994.

I was appointed Honorary Consultant Neurologist to the National Hospital Queen Square in 1990,  and was appointed to a Personal Chair in Clinical Neurology at UCL Institute of Neurology (IoN) in 1997.

I have specialised in Parkinson's Disease and other Movement Disorders for 40 years, exclusively so for the last 25 years, when I did two specialist NHS and one private clinic every week.

I retired from NHS and University Employment in 2007, but continued seeing patients privately until 2017. I continue to lecture, to publish, and to do medicolegal work.
