Biography

Having graduating as an architect from the Bartlett School of Architecture in 1999, Paul begun working in restaurants and retail, with work evolving over the years since to specialise in more public buildings, in particular acoustic and performance spaces.

Currently a design tutor at the Bartlett school of Architecture, and Associate Director at Flanagan Lawrence, Paul has been project architect for several of the practices award winning public schemes including the Acoustic Shells in Littlehampton as well as Soundforms, the first-ever mobile acoustic shell with the capacity for a full orchestra. Soundforms is a modular structure that not only shelters performers, but allows musicians to hear themselves and projects sound to the audience.

Paul has also been project architect for the performance, rehearsal and teaching spaces at the award winning Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. He was also involved in the redevelopment of the foyers at Sadler’s Wells theatre, ‘green roofed’ restaurants/bars/visitors centres/Music Performance areas for the new Marina East botanical gardens in Singapore, and a modular acoustic panelling system for the Royal College of Music.

Paul has had work published in the RIBA Journal, Building Design, AD: Hypersurface Architecture and the AD Tom Kovac monograph. Paul is an active member of sound art group Audialsense, and has given lectures on the relationships between sound art and architecture at universities across London.

Prior to his time at Flanagan Lawrence & UCL, Paul joined Foster+Partners in 2004 where he worked on public sector projects in both Peterborough and Corby City Academies, coordinating structure and services on both academies. While at Foster’s, Paul also worked on a masterplan for Folkestone, and the UK Supreme Court.
