I am a Senior Teaching Fellow within the Speech and Language Sciences MSc where I coordinate and teach on the Professional studies module (SLANG201) and coordinate the clinical education programme for Year B.

I graduated with an undergraduate Speech Pathology degree and LaTrobe University in 2004. I have recently completed an MA in Teaching and Learning in Higher Professional Education at the Institute of Education (UCL) with a dissertation on the topic of interprofessional clinical education in Speech and language therapy (SLT).

Prior to joining throughout my time at UCL I have held various clinical posts in SLT in Australia and the NHS (UK). These most recently include a clinical lead SLT post at Central Northwest London Foundation Trust. My clinical interests and specialties include working with adults who have communication and swallowing difficulties resulting from neurological conditions and particularly progressive conditions.

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of several clinical excellence networks (CENs).

In my teaching role, I carry out lectures, workshops and tutorials in the Professional Studies module, SLANG201. I also attend clinical visits as part of the practice component of assessment. I coordinate and placement programme for Year B and oversee the running of these placements. I have also taught on other modules of the MSc SLS prorgramme.

My key interests and focus in teaching are:
-how we develop professionals who are able to use the skills of active professional reflective practice and thinking 'on their feet' and to turn experience into learning.
-how students learn the skills of collaboration and client centredness by learning to work collaboratively with adult clients and place the service user at the centre of the care. This has a natural flow on effect to high level of effectiveness and appropriateness of clinical decision making, cohesive team working and naturally to service user satisfaction.

Research Summary

My research has centred around adult learning in higher education, particularly on interprofessional education (IPE). I am interested in best practice outcomes for interprofessional practice and education for health professionals and particularly Speech and Language Therapists.
I have carried out qualitative research on the topic of IPE investigating the beliefs, attitudes and experience of practice educators and students on the MSc SLS programme combined with an evaluation of interprofessional clinical learning experience.
