Mr Sean Doyle
UCL Institute of Education, University College London
20 Bedford Way
  • Lecturer in Primary Education
  • IOE - Learning & Leadership
  • UCL Institute of Education
My research, teaching and consultancy interests are in comparative education and training, professional learning for teachers, learning outside the classroom, science education, inclusive education and global citizenship.

I co-developed The National Inclusion Framework for Scotland and contributed to the creation of a European Masters degree in secondary education (JoMiTE) and still have interests in transnational differences in curricula and professionalism.
Research Summary
I am currently a part-time PhD candidate studying transnational contrasts in the theorisation of professional learning.
Interested in the status teachers have in different societies and what kinds of professional learning opportunities and barriers are percieved, I am following an interpretative phenomenological approach to my studies.  Having been in teacher education for ten years I am interested in the incentives, professional dialogues, dilemmas and agendas which shape the future for education.
Teaching Summary
Previously I was a teacher in International, Secondary and Primary schools before becoming a senior teaching fellow (University of Edinburgh) for 4 years and senior lecturer (LJMU) for 4 years.
I have been a lecturer in education at UCL IOE for just over two years now and in addition to teaching on the PGCE(Primary) programme, have offered the following consultancy work:

Two week residential teacher education programme of study for fellow university lecturers from Orleu, Kazakhstan, on Improving Schools’ Appraisal Frameworks, teacher professional development and teacher education (December 2013).

Organised and led a one week teacher education programme of study for 25 school supervisors from Kuwait for the British Council, on developing and improving teacher appraisal frameworks. (October 2014).
