Biography

I recently finished a sociology of (science) education PhD at King's College London, exploring how gender, social class and ethnicity shape girls' engagement with science in formal and informal contexts. I joined UCL Institute of Education in March 2017.

Previously, I had completed a Master of Pharmacy degree at the University of Ljubljana and MSc in Sociology at the University of Bristol, and worked across the areas of community healthcare, public heath, medical writing and social research consultancy.

Languages spoken/written: Slovenian (native), Spanish (intermediate), German (intermediate)

Research Summary

My research interests include:

  • sociology of education
  • science education (formal and informal)
  • social equity
  • gender
  • social class
  • ethnicity and migration

I currently work on two projects led by Professor Louise Archer.

The Enterprising Science project (2012-2017) explores the notion of 'science capital' and seeks to develop ways to engage more diverse young people with science. We work with secondary school science teachers in developing a 'science capital pedagogical approach' to teaching science.

The Youth Equity and STEM project (2017-2021) explores young people's science pathways and intends to work with informal science learning providers in identifying and developing high leverage practice in working with youth in equitable ways. This is a Wellcome Trust funded project that is a collaboration with the University of Michigan and the University of Portland.

I also do evaluation work for museums and galleries.
