Research Summary

Tom is a Teaching Fellow and Researcher working in the field of modelling cerebral blood flow. His research work focuses in particular on the design of novel minimally invasive devices and the patient-specific treatment of cerebral aneurysms. He is currently collaborating with the Minimally Invasive New Technologies Group (Weill Cornell Medical College), the Oxford Neurovascular and Neuroradiology Research Unit (University of Oxford) and the Department of Mechanical Engineering (University of Cape Town). Much of his work sits at the interface between research and medical device commercialisation—and has resulted in Tom consulting for a number of spin-out and early-stage companies in the medtech sector.

His other research interests include folding and self-deploying structures, flow stability, and both in-vitro and animal models.

In the Mechanical Engineering Department he is involved in teaching both Undergraduate and MSc students.
