Biography

In the Bartlett School of Construction and Project Management I am teaching on the strategic and operational aspects of the management of projects (Optional Modules Leader: Exploring Project Requirements and Transforming Construction Projects into Business Operations) and I am involved in the leadership of Research Methods and Dissertation modules for both the Postgraduate and Undergraduate Programmes. Prior to my current role, I was a UCL research associate in the International Centre for Infrastructure Futures (ICIF) - focusing on the delivery and innovative business models for the provision of public services through infrastructure assets.

Prior to joining the Bartlett, I was a postdoctoral researcher in the High Tech Health Farm, an interdisciplinary programme between research institutes and healthcare providers to develop the infrastructure for remote and demand-driven healthcare services in Twente - the Netherlands. The specific aim of this project was to develop and implement innovative tools and methods that support collaborative design efforts among professionals in the built environment and healthcare services domains.

My PhD was on design management issues that occur in large-scale projects, for which purpose I researched a major London Olympics enabling project as an in-depth case study. I obtained my PhD from Vienna University of Technology in Austria and a Diploma in Civil Engineering from the University of Zagreb in Croatia.

Research Summary

My research interest sits at the boundary of social science, organisation studies, engineering, and management. My work can be broadly defined as cross-disciplinary project scholarship looking at the role of projects as execution carriers for both policy and strategy in their design phase as well as business operations in their use phase. Research so far has focused on issues of design and delivery management in large projects with the empirical work featuring settings of construction, healthcare and transportation sectors. More recently my focus has been on the role that infrastructure projects play in creating value for societies and and ways, in which components of that value can be captured across public and private parties in the infrastructure value chain. In this capacity, I am the Principal Investigator of the ESRC Future Research Leaders Project – Business Innovation Dynamics in Infrastructure Projects.
