Research Summary
Wen Li has a background in computer science and finished his PhD in Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. During his PhD, he investigated how the geographical information embedded in social media can be captured in mathematical models and be used to improve individual users’ experience as well as the services of large organisations such as municipalities. In his study, he built a number of models to capture users’ online mobility patterns and estimate users’ knowledge about different locations from their mobility patterns. He was also involved in the project SHINE led by Delft University of Technology which endeavours to integrate modern technologies and data analytics in urban management such as water damage management. In the project, he analysed the patterns between the signals from social media and the governmental registration system regarding water problems in urban areas. Wen also has interests in Big Data processing techniques and has work experience on a large Hadoop cluster (500 cores) as well as on a HPC server (128 cores). He was also involved in various data analytics and data service infrastructures built during the work. He is the main contributor of CDRC Data website service and has been maintaining the infrastructure for the service.
