Dr Xuxin Mao(毛旭新)is an economics lecturer and Deputy Course Director for the MSc in Construction Economics and Management at UCL, and researcher in application of AI and Big Data analytics, associated with ONS, Invennt and L’Institut Europlace de Finance. For the past years, I have studied economics, finance and mathematics in China and EU, and worked across industries and countries as UNHCR volunteer, academic researcher, certified Financial Risk Manager (FRM), investment banker, and Big Data forecaster. Research Themes
Research Summary

Equipped with skills in economics and finance, statistical analysis, text mining and Big Data analytics, I have developed an innovative Topic Retrieved, Uncovered and Structurally Tested (TRUST) framework for Big Data analysis and trend prediction in finance, business and social sciences. The framework has been used for predicting elections for BBC, Guardian, etc.,  construction output for ONS, life insurance demand for Groupama, and financial performance for Invennt (a British consultancy).

Teaching Summary

I enjoy teaching students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I tutored the Modelling and Forecasting in Financial Markets course to more than 120 MSc students. At UCL, while tutoring and marking core economics courses, I am the course leader for Economics 1 (Undergraduate) and Projects, Economics and Behaviour (Postgraduate).

I have designed curriculum for a construction statistics and econometrics workshop, and taught STATA econometric modelling to more than 100 MSc students in Construction Economics and Project Management.

I am currently supervising Ms. Yixi Liao (Cambridge Math Tripos) at UCL and interested in supervising more PhD students with strong quantitative background to apply Big Data and AI on real estate and financial markets.
