Assessment of Cardiovascular Prostheses
The pre-clinical assessment of artificial heart valves involves basic and applied research on materials characterisation, numerical simulations of prosthetic structures into physiological systems, in-vitro hydrodynamic testing and lifetime prediction. The laboratories of the Cardiovascular Engineering & Medical Devices Group are equipped with all the most advanced tools to validate and assess cardiovascular prosthetic devices, including testing machines and treatment facilities for biomaterials, computational facilities for FEM, CFD and FSI analyses, and hydro-mechanical cardiovascular pulse duplicator systems for the full evaluation of the haemodynamic valve performances and durability.
