London in Motion
London in Motion is a UCL Urban Documentary Film Workshop, which focuses on London as well as East Europeans living in London. The core objective of this project is to explore in an inter-disciplinary manner various new, cheap and easily accessible visual technologies (including mobile phones and mini-DV cameras) as tools for urban research and teaching in urban studies. Film is chosen as a research tool given its unique capacity to reveal the personal, anonymous, and collective routines of daily life in cities. During the workshops UCL postgraduate students and staff as well as non-academics from the wider community will learn to apply the basic principles and tools of documentary film making. In the long run, the aim of this project is to establish this type of activity on a more permanent basis, and seek cooperation with partners in Eastern Europe and the wider London community. London in Motion is a joint initiative between the Bartlett School of Planning (Urban Film Society), the School of Slavonic and Eastern European Studies (SSEES) and PocketVisions. It is funded by UCL Futures.
