Unamuno's attitudes to the First World War
In December 2013 I undetook a research trip to the Casa Museo Miguel de Unamuno in Salamanca in order to examine Unamuno's personal library copies of works relating to the First World War. Although Spain remained neutral during that conflict, debates about the ideological background to and conduct of the war raged for the duration of the war. Unamuno was a key figure in those debates and wrote extensively on the conflict in the Spanih press. He evidently collected a considerable number of books on the war and annotated them in detail. My visit to the Casa Museo was a preliminary opportunity to see what research possibilities lie therein.
