Asymmetrical Encounters: Digital Humanities approaches to Reference Cultures in Europe, 1815-2000
This European project, funded by HERA, aims to explore the question of how public debates in smaller European countries were influenced by public debates in neighbouring larger countries. It does so by iteratively developing and using multi-lingual text- and sentiment-mining tools on the large digitised newspaper collections of several European national libraries. In our case study we are looking at the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg at the intersection of British, German and French cultural influences. The project outcomes will include a working demonstrator for multi-lingual text mining, next to conference papers and publications.
