The staff in the Biomedical Engineering Research Group is engaged in world-leading research in this area. This team has recently grown further following seven new academic staff appointments, including a Chair in Biomaterials, made after a wide-ranging departmental strategic review. The new staff complements existing research strengths within the department and with other groups at UCL engaged in biomedical engineering research, in particular:

  • Biomaterials & Tissue Engineering Centre of the Academic Division of Surgical & Interventional Sciences
  • Institute of Orthopaedics & Musculoskeletal Science at Stanmore
  • The Centre for Clinical Science & Technology Continence and Skin Technology Group

Group Capabilities

  • Modelling of Ultrasound Propagation
  • Characterisation and Design of Ultrasound Contrast Agents
  • Synthesis, processing and forming of biomedical materials
  • Biophysics, biosprays, self-assembly and patterning of living organisms
  • Cardiovascular engineering
  • Implantable medical devices
  • Numerical simulation of physiological mechanisms and fluid-structure interactions
  • Mechatronics and control applied to biomedical systems
