Biography
After finishing her architecture studies in Munich, Germany, in 2002 Mona enjoyed an internship in an architectural office for heritage conservation in Montreal, Canada. She left Quebec to pursue a Master’s degree in Heritage Conservation (2003-2005) in Bamberg/Germany, where she specialized subsequently as Research Assistant in CAD, 3D imaging techniques and databases especially in the field of conservation science and in architectural conservation.

Her graduate internship in 2006/07 at the Getty Conservation Institute, field projects department, in Los Angeles/USA gave her working experience in international projects by contributing to the project: Middle Eastern Geodatabase for Antiquities (MEGA) - Jordan.

Since 2008 she is studying and working at UCL.

 

Research Summary

Mona Hess is a Research Associate based at the UCL Photogrammetry, 3D Imaging and Metrology Research Centre  headed by Prof. Stuart Robson at the Department for Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering. Mona is working in collaboration with UCL Museums and Public Engagement since 2008.

Specialized in 3D colour imaging and replica for museum objects she has taken on projects within University College London (E-Curator "3D colour scans for remote object identification and assessment", workshop ‘Life cycle of a digital object’), for museums in London (British Museum - Solomon Islands Canoe, Science Museum, Cortauld Institute of Art) but also internationally (Università degli studi Lecce/Italy, CULTNAT Egypt, University of Virginia/ USA).

Currently she is actively involved with the 3DPetrie project at the UCL Petrie Museum.

Research Interests:
    3D colour laser scanning of museum objects
    E-documentation of cultural heritage
    Digital archives for buildings and museum objects
    Heritage Conservation and Conservation Science

Teaching Summary

2014: Module development and Co-Teaching the BASC2082: Technologies in Arts and Cultural Heritage for the UCL Bachelor of Arts and Sciences.
