European Languages, Culture & Society
UCL School of European Languages, Culture & Society (SELCS) is a world-leading centre for teaching, research and public engagement. Our programmes are multidisciplinary and intercultural and our research record continues to be rated as outstanding. We offer the widest range of language and language-related degrees in the UK and are consistently ranked highly across our areas of teaching. The geographical range of our programmes and research includes Europe, Francophone North Africa, the Caribbean, Canada, Latin America, and the Lusophone countries of Africa and Asia. Our scholars are world experts in their fields of research, including literature, history, film, art, linguistics, philosophy, politics and translation. Home to the UK's first professors in Spanish, French, German, Italian and Dutch, SELCS brings together 11 languages, many different disciplines and a global approach to understanding languages and cultures from the medieval period to the present. Through our graduate programmes, we draw together various research centres grouped as the Centre for Multidisciplinary and Intercultural Inquiry (CMII) and chaired by the SELCS Director.
