Invited speaker: Teaching maths with technology - making learning tangible! Other Knowledge Transfer beyond Academia Association of Teachers of Mathematics 06-APR-2021
Description
The Covid-19 pandemic has moved much mathematics teaching and learning online and many teachers and learners have had to grapple with new technologies. Whilst 'skill and drill' technologies are often initially appealing, motivation to keep using them can decline (for teachers and learners). Furthermore, these types of technologies are rarely designed to be the main source of new learning. In this session, we will showcase some of the more mathematical environments that foreground the mathematics - and in doing so, create more tangible opportunities to engage in mathematical concepts.

Online workshop: Getting started with maths tools to support remote learning Public Engagement Centres of Excellence in Mathematics 03-DEC-2020
Description
Remote teaching and learning of maths is demanding a blend of "live" and "in your own time" digital tools that are new to many Post-16 learners and their lecturers. In this session, we'll focus on a few approaches that support learners' active (re)engagement with key maths concepts to help unlock the important mathematical ideas within. We'll also touch upon successful strategies for sharing maths ideas and solutions when teaching "live".
