The steering group meets once per term, it is a group made up of disabled staff. The group is a way UCL warrants the existence of an structure for engagement with disabled staff (as part of the Disability Standard).

A fair recruitment specialist at UCL has been trained to tackle common issues in the recruitment process, in particular in recruitment panels by acting as a valued and equal member of the panel that inteviews for new posts at UCL. Common issued that fair recruitement specialist will aim to dissipate are: overly-bureaucratic recruitment, temptation to cut corners, over reliance on a single selection method, panels recruiting in their own image and attempting to replace the persons who has left with an identical person and not keeping an open mind. In addition to my role, I will aim to make sure recruitment panels are fair and understanding of invisible disabilities, and as such, will act to dissipate the expectations of recruitment panels as to what they consider "normal" behaviour and help them to be more aware and understanding of neurodiversity.
