Director ( from 2004), previously Deputy Director of the Centre housing a growing number of national birth cohort studies - previously known as the Social Statistics Research Unit at City University ( 1994-1998). Role involved leadership of academic and professional staff, raising funding and managing transitions.

Principal Investigator of a national cohort study - an interdisciplinary research resource following nearly 20,000 births in the UK. This was funded by several research grants from ESRC, ONS, and other sources. It involved the leadership of a team of survey and data officers and researchers from various fields. It also involved liaison with extrernal users of the data in academe, public and third sectors, and with the cohort families themselves.

Funded jointly by ESRC and ONS to enable academic use of this census-linked data resource, and to make the scientific case for its continuation, to nclude the 2001 census. Joshi led the academic research team at City University which moved to the Institute of Education in 1998.

Prize for contributions to the field of longitudinal studies
