Sarah (Sally) Lois Price is a practically minded theoretical chemist who has transformed our understanding of the subtle differences in the crystalline organic solid state energy landscape. Her ability to calculate intermolecular forces and hence to control and then demonstrate new physical forms of organic molecules, such as hitherto unknown polymorphs, has enormous relevance to interdisciplinary work in the pharmaceutical industry. This work is based on her pioneering development of models for the forces between organic molecules from their charge distributions, and the computer codes to use them to simulate organic crystal structures and properties for hundreds of molecular systems.
