I am a Senior Research Fellow in the Centre for Teachers and Teaching Research. My research to date has explored the impact of inclusion on autistic children and the attitudes of non-autistic children toward their autistic peers. My published papers highlight factors influencing vulnerability towards, and protection against social rejection and bullying for autistic children. Current projects evaluate the effectiveness of contrasting school settings and interventions designed to increase understanding of autism. Proposed future research will explore psychological and social factors influencing teachers’ thoughts and beliefs about inclusion. My main focus is the influences on early career teachers’ conceptualisations of neurodiversity and obstacles to teacher agency in the enactment of inclusive practice. I have taught across a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in developmental and educational psychology at the University of Surrey and became an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2018. I have supervised undergraduate and postgraduate student dissertations, some leading to publication. I am experienced in using a variety of teaching formats, including those required for effective blended and online teaching and learning throughout the pandemic. Current teaching responsibilities include supervision of Master’s in Education student dissertations, PhD supervision and tutoring students on the BA Education Studies module, The Teacher in Policy & Research.
