Research Summary
main areas of research are in relation to bone remodelling and repair; tendon and ligament injury; degeneration of the intervertebral disc; in vivo tissue engineering, particularly in relation to manipulating skeletal tissues in the body to resurface joints and in the improvement of osseo-mechanical integration of joint prostheses. In many of these conditions there are great similarities between animals and man, for instance the pathology of tendon injury in racehorses is very similar to the changes seen in human Achilles tendon lesions and in lesions of the rotator cuff in the shoulder.
