She earned her doctorate from the University of Oxford as part of the AHRC-funded project Artefacts of Excavation: the international distribution of finds from British excavations in Egypt, 1880-1980. Her thesis focused on temporary exhibitions of Egyptian Archaeology in late nineteenth and early twentieth century London and their role in finds distribution and in constructing knowledge of Egypt.
