Biography
Alessia is a PhD student who joined the Basit Research Group in June 2021. She studied Masters of Pharmacy in University of Padua, Italy and conducted her Masters project at the Institute du Thorax, in Nantes, France, where she investigated the effect of the absence of PCSK9 protein on obese mice, operated by Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. She obtained her professional licence and worked for one year as a pharmacist in Venice following her graduation in March 2020. At the beginning of 201 she won the COLOTAN-Horizon 2020 fellowship for a 3 years PhD at the UCL Schoo of Pharmacy. 
Research Summary
She is part of COLOTAN - Boosting advanced doctoral training in innovative colon targeting drugs, funded by European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. 

Her research focuses on the great impact that the gut microbiota has on drugs metabolism, women's health and special populations' age.
